Hi there Karen,
Yesssss, that's it: a good book in one hand, long iced tea in the other. That is most surely the ticket. I have indeed been following the press on "The Wind Done Gone". It's been a fascinating look at the politics of the publishing industry. I'm very much looking forward to reading it.

Isn't that interesting that you experienced Alice Randall's mother very differently from how she is portrayed by her daughter. In my view (colored as it is by the psychoanalytic brush), portayals of family relationships are more self-revelatory than reportorial. I read them asking myself "What needs does this portrayal of her mother as racist (or her father as abusive, etc.) fulfill in her life? But then again I tend to get caught up in the psychological.

My kitten has been trying to find a way to keep comfortable in the only cool corner of my screened porch. It appears he's a 'frog legger', likes to lie with his legs completely straight out behind him. He looks like a dust mop.

Karen, on the somewhat off topic of TV, did you read this article from the Sunday paper? nytimes.com . I only glanced at it, the idea of Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch delivering a whole news channel worth of Limbaugh/Drudge style "objective" reporting is not something I like to think about. I'm too impatient to watch more than occasional snatches of the news on TV anyway, from whatever source.
