Aus,

re: "I guess the higher density NAND solves the write speed problem as prior
SanDisk press releases hinted. At 3.2 MB/sec this type of performance
really overshadows the Lexar Media controller speeds."

Send an email to Nikon.

re: "flash media will have a hard time competing with blank CD's at 50¢ a piece."

You are probably right. But... I can't put my finger on why, I think flash still has a chance in this market. Burned CD's are an irritation to me, always something I want to add or subtract, and a a pain to start over.

There is something neat and clean about re-writable flash, that I think if the price is right, could be more compelling than CD's.

John, flash media will have a hard time competing with blank CD's at 50¢ a piece.

You can also mention that rewrite DVDs are now around $800 and going down.

Flash does have a big edge, as you mention. It is hard to stick a CD in a camera or PDA. In fact, almost any portable device would prefer flash over anything else if the price/M were anywhere close to each other (no moving parts).

Can somebody bring me up to date on the % of the market that flash is taking from standard memory chips in the PC?

Ausdauer, re: "1Gb NAND flash architecture"

Sandisk today announced the results of its first test of a 32GB CF card developed jointly with Toshiba. An actual user was quoted as saying "While beta testing this product, I shot 132 images of my left foot and 245 of my right foot. I also have 146 hi-res images of my cat's front paws, 268 of his face, and 319 of his rear end as he walked away. I have been shooting all day and my camera reports that I still have >30,000 unused images. Perhaps it's time for me to leave my house in search of new photo opportunities.".

Aus ... there is an end-point to flash. We aren't there yet but after 128K, the "returns" are starting to diminish.
