Did anyone notice that 46,500 Oct 17.50 AMD puts traded yesterday (on OI of 15,730). Number one volume contract.

Looks like a block trade by someone very skeptical of AMD's prospects. Of course the trade could have been initiated by someone selling the puts.

I ordered a 1.2 GHZ 200 FSB in K7VZA last Fri
It's due in tomorrow. Meanwhile the price has dropped $7. I knew I should have waited till this week. I had the feeling prices would be dropping at end of qtr. No big deal though.
BTW has anyone had any experience with AGP video board in the K7VZA?

Re: " Did anybody other then Paul notice the PriceWatch carnage for AMD CPUs in the last week or so?"

Probably not - since Pricewatch doesn't post their data "in the sand".

Just for reference, top-o-the-line 1.4 GHz AthWiper - Now down to $164.

1.2 Ghz AThWiper - BELOW $100 !

<Did anybody other then Paul notice the PriceWatch carnage for AMD CPUs in the last week or so?>

It started several weeks back. I pointed to carnage on the Durons several weeks back when the stock was trading in the 30s.

<I am not sure how the channel works. I think that the boxed chips are not counted as revenue until they are sold. It is possible that AMD has been calling the dealers in the last few weeks and lowering the price on boxed CPUs, trying to make the quarter.>

There is very little doubt that both AMD and Intel are fighting pitched battles at the low-end. Duron and Celeron prices are going down fast and Athlon and P4 prices are not going down as fast. Both companies are making deals and stuffing channels at this point.

VIA selling processors in the far east at rock bottom prices doesn't help either.

<Today I closed some AMD short put positions and again mostly cash at the moment.>

It is possible that you are closing the barn doors after the animals left. The stock went from low-$30s to low-$20s for a reason - people figured out quarter wasn't looking good and bailed in 30s and high 20s.

Since there is no warning yet, it is possible that the quarter end sales push will help AMD stay within guidance and I wouldn't be surprised to see a pop between now and earnings. AMD make the units number with a significant drop in ASPs.
