gao, I don't hate msft, I ridicule and make fun of it. I find their software sucks compared to the linux and unix software that I use. But msft is adequate software for many. I also see the timing of the msft case as providing a check that may have allowed Linux to advance more and Linux is in the longer run more important to information productivity going forward.

I suspect that the lack of continued growth or contraction of msft would have occured, but just on a different time line without the law suit.

gao, embedded designs don't care a wit about msft. I can do all software development with linux and in fact many products are now using linux as the embedded control program that is completely hidden from the user. Computer aided engineering design tools are also being ported to linux as it's is know to be superior by engineers.

Well superior engineers know this. But this is not an opinion of hate. It my belief from hands over several years of the crappiness of msft. gao, my computers run hundreds of application all at the same time for months on end.
A msft OS would choke running any 10% of what I do all the time. These are my day-in and day-out observations.

What's good about msft, well it OK for mundane application and mundane users. That is the vast majority and in America the universal mundane use of msft has some value. In the near term in that America is the world economy and the rest of the Anti American world resists msft, this may be positive to the US. Over time however is see the total rework of msft of OSes vs the continuing linear advance of linux favoring linux.

Consider xv, a superb 1994 image editing program. I've used from linux .9 thru linux 8.whatever. Moving applications thru major upgrades in linux is trivial, msft is reinvent the wheel.
