"that very short sighted ANALyst was me."

Confession is good for the soul. If you get too stuck in the here-and-now with computers, it is always tempting to say that faster/better/more capable machines are not needed and the market is ready for commodity computers. And the Microsoft releases a new version of the their operating system and...

At some point, totally integrated chips (like Timna) will be thee future, and all machines will be sealed, game console-like boxes that can't be upgraded. That time isn't now, and there is no telling when it will be. Having called the time several times in the past, I am not willing to stick my neck out again...

With even SiS moving away to a degree from fully integrated chipsets, I doubt if the time of totally integrated chipsets is going to come in the next few years.

>young [ in attitude not years, since AMD is actually chronologically older than inteL<

Are you sure? I thought AMD was founded one year after Intel.

DARBES,

I enjoyed your post. I can "see" and have seen many of the points you have so capably made! Thanks!

Re: My observations since have been that as computer power expands, power hungry applications appear and a market is created for whatever new power is available. My guess is that we are still a log way from the end point.

Are you sure there is an "end point"??? It may be we are still very close to the beginning of a long journey, a journey in which there is no end point...ever!

Kindest Regards from a fellow AMD Long,
CrazyMan

DRBES:

"inteL, once and still a financial powerhouse, appears to be blowing its financial load in a frenetic attempt to catch up to AMD with less than proven technology; while AMD, suddenly recognized as an intellectual powerhouse, is building into a financial powerhouse on the proceeds from its technological innovation prowess during the past several years. I watch with very great interest as this is to play out."

A corroborating indicator, as posted earlier today, is the fact that AMD's revenues 2 years ago were 1/10th INTC's, 1 year ago, 1/7th INTC's, and by the end of this year quite possibly 1/5th INTC's. With Athlon 4 sales about to explode, I suspect AMD profitability trends will mirror the positive comparative revenue trends!
