Yes its true, roustabouts had simple needs. I have fond memories of those days, but I don't think I could handle doing it again. :)

My only times offshore were for laydowns (coming out the hole) and mud runs (unloading barges). Spent most of the time kicking pipe in the pipeyards.

I went back there in 84 when I was on vacation in New Orleans, just to see the old stomping grounds. It was downright eerie! Like a neutron bomb had gone off, destroying all the people but leaving property intact. Had lunch at Pat & Carolyn's Seafood Restaurant in Morgan City in the early afternoon and I was the only customer. That place was always packed, I hope they survived the dry spell OK, they are good people.

It sounds like the water project washed away part of the battle site. I'll bet when the water is low its worth poking around the banks. No telling how far some of that stuff carried.
