When you open your .DAT file in Excel, you can choose from a number of file formats. Since it only takes a few seconds to try one, all can be sampled in a minute or two. Most likely, TEXT will work. When you open your .DAT file in Excel, choose TEXT in the Files of Type box. This will cause the Text Import Wizard to open which displays a sample of your .DAT file's contents and allows you to pick between Delimited or Fixed Field data. Picking Delimited, you'll next select the delimiters. Excel gives you plenty of choices. Picking Fixed Field, you'll select the field sizes. The last decision is the type of data cell Excel should use for each field. This should enable you to get your data into Excel format. Be sure to save your work as an Excel Workbook with the File / Save As ... (Otherwise, Excel will save it in its original format.) Cheers, PW. P.S. The file extension .DAT is a generic extension implying DATA. Several programs use this extension for different purposes. Because of its universal nature, it should not be associated with any Windows programs.
