Quite frankly.. I think the "invention" of the social safety net to help catch those falling thru the cracks of the excesses of capitalism is a marvellous thing that was created.. whether liberals are to take credit for creating the notion.. or stealng the idea from the socialists in the 1800s and modifying it to suit their ideology is up for debate.. but I think that without this program.. a lot more people would be in trouble when economies take a downturn (ie the Great Depression).

Conservatives arent great for everything my friend... it was "conservatives" who didnt wish for slavery to end.. or for the Civil Rights Movement to succeed.. or apartheid to end in South Africa... or for perestroika to fail in the Soviet Union.

Conservatives it has been shown thru history tend to root for the status quo.. to prevent what they feel threatens the society they live in..(or in the case of recent US history, for the special interests they represent) often to the very detriment of the society they claim to want to protect.

Re: liberalism is to blame for almost all our nation's ills and I defy anyone to show me a liberal program that worked

Liberals invented the country. If you were honest about being truly conservative, you'd renounce your vote, get down on your knees, and swear homage to the English Queen!

The rebellion of the 13 colonies against the King was the first liberal program. The Declaration of Independence was another one. Replacing the Articles of the Confederation with the Constitution was yet another liberal program.

If you weren't such a hypocrite, you'd be tithing the King!

My use of the term "liberal" is always derogatory, as liberalism is to blame for almost all our nation's ills and I defy anyone to show me a liberal program that worked.

And I always thought it was the conservatives that were keeping us from being the great nation we could be.

It's not personal, however -- I know lots of nice people who are liberals. I just wouldn't trust them, let alone to run a country.

Well, you might want to adjust to the notion that liberals are here to stay. After all who else would you have to blame for the conservatives' inability to run the country successfully. After 6 mos. in office, Bush already is starting to falter. Who knows where we will be in four years......probably third world.
