Charles,

I think Linux is extremely popular on college campuses among the computer users of tomorrow.

When I was getting my Masters, Pascal was all the rage. I loved it, thought it was the best. Guess how many Pascal programs I wrote once I entered the real world?

Towards the end of my graduate studies they had set up a PC network. All the code I wrote for my "Computer Graphics" and my "AI" courses ran on the pCode system. The pCode interpreter could be ported to any hardware. It was os independent, like Java. The Java craze taught me that marketing is everything. Innovation means nothing. Right product at the right time with a strong marketing arm is all that really matters.
