Charles, you shouldn't take Pareti seriously. I don't think he does. He doesn't really have any opinions about anything, he just hates everybody and likes to spew his low-brow invectives at them. He's probably a network guy at an accounting shop somewhere in Iowa.

Jackson baited the Appeals Court, and they bit. He's no idiot. But I think he must have grown weary of this trial, of having to witness Microsoft's incredibly sleazy testimony, of trying to stay awake while Microsoft's experts contradicted one another, and of sitting through Bill Gates' insulting deposition more than once. Toward the end, he must have just found it worth the embarrassment to get himself thrown off of the case. So he abbreviated the remedies proceedings, actually insulted the Appeals Court in his decision, and told reporters that if the Appeals Court disagreed, they should give the case to somebody else. In response, although to my surprise they agreed with most of his decision, they predictably yanked the case from him, and told the world that he acted unprofessionally. He's probably breathing a sigh of relief from a lounge chair somewhere, sipping a cold lemonade, and patting himself on the back from escaping from the fetid stench of Microsoft's lawyers.
