Dan, Re: 3 million Athlon at $125 ASP

That's very unrealistic, especially since you already factored mobile Athlons and Athlon MPs out. According to Buggi's ASP data (see mod thread), Athlon ASPs are currently slightly below $100. His data has proven to be very accurate in the past, so this seems reasonable.

Also if you look at Pricewatch a 1.4 GHz Athlon is selling for $162, a 1.33 GHz Athlon for $129. Every Athlon below that is already selling for under $100! That means, to reach your $125 ASP goal, AMD had to sell more Athlons at 1.33 GHz and greater than below. And that's IMO unrealistic.

Your Duron ASPs are also too high IMO. Every Duron except the 900 and 950 Mhz model is selling already below your ASP. So again AMD had to sell more of those than of all the other speed grades. Looking at the Duron models in retail right now, this isn't the distribution we see.

FWIW, I was in the Cancun Costco store this morning. There were 4 laptops, all Intel and 8 different desktops, all Intel. AMD was nowhere to be found. I am sure this is a low-volume store compared to a US CompUSA or some such, but expected to see at least one AMD machine in this very budget-minded country.
