Brio Technology (BRIO: news, msgs, alerts) shares plunged 23 percent Monday morning after the business intelligence technology company reported a first-quarter loss wider than analysts expected. The Santa Clara, Calif-based company reported a loss of $7.6 million, or 26 cents a share, missing Wall Street expectations by 20 cents. Revenue dropped 12 percent in the quarter to $29.1 million compared with $33 million in the year-ago period. Brio cited a "distinct pullback" in information technology department spending for the shortfall. Shares traded down $1.34 to $4.46

Shares of computer systems manufacturer NCR Corp. (NCR: news, msgs, alerts) dropped 12 percent Monday morning after the company warned that its second-quarter earnings and revenue would be lower than expected due to customers putting off purchasing decisions in its data warehousing unit. Earnings for the quarter will be come in between 35 cents and 37 cents a share, compared to the consensus estimate of 57 cents a share as compiled by First Call/Thomson Financial. Revenue will total about $1.5 billion, in line with the current consensus estimate. The stock traded down $5.26 to $39.65 in recent action.
