>> Something like 2/3 of Americans describe themselves as environmentalists <<

yeah well we all want clean air and water and we all love trees and cute furry little animals, but some people take it too far and some people just aren't rational with their approach. these are the people i'm referring to, not the majority of the public who simply cares about the environment. (even though many are uninformed and ignorant they have their heart in the right place).

>> BTW Craig, do you have any comments as to whether or not photovoltaic solar panels will become a commodity in the coming five to ten years? <<

some definitions for the word commodity are pretty broad, defining it as any useful thing or anything bought and sold. you have to be more specific about what you mean by solar panels becoming a commodity. do you mean massively produced and relatively cheap?

>> I.e., would you say that once supply catches up with demand, the product becomes a commodity? <<

if demand was far outpacing supply, prices would be going up. but prices are going down, as supply increases are spurring demand. demand is very elastic in this case, people don't want to buy solar cells unless the price comes down. so maybe you could view it as demand chasing supply instead of supply chasing demand. i do understand your way of looking at it, which is to say there is a big demand for solar lurking out there, as soon as supply can be increased to lower the prices.

i dunno, can you keep the questions simple? this is all too much for my brain early in the morning after a long 4th!
