Niceguy, Re: Almost everyone, except Paul, Mani, kapkan4u and a small group of others had any inkling whatsoever!

Please... ASPs were in the toilet for some time and if you would have read Buggi's ASP analysis (as posted here on the thread), you should have been alerted. Reports about AMD losing market share in retail, a slow Athlon 4 and MP ramp and pushing back of schedules didn't help either. I'm "bearish" on AMD for some time now and I don't expect it to get better in the short-term. AMD could be in a much better situation today if management had executed better in the last few months.

niceguy,

Remember two years ago when K6 ran at lower MHz (and higher IPC) than PII, and Intel built a very steep pricing curve for all speed grades above the fastest K6? Intel made money and AMD didn't.

K7 rescued AMD back then. I hope they have something else waiting in the wings.

Wasn't writing on the wall?

This is a very tough market for all semi's. I am seeing it first hand, it is EXTREMELY ugly. Inventory glut and extra capacity all over the place. Intel might meet their numbers (not likely), but even if they do they will significantly guide down for 3rd quarter.
