Actually, this AMD warning is good news for Intel. It weakens their only real competitor. Surely, lower levels of profitable and certainly a lot less cash will impact AMD's business. If there were several companies serving the same market, I would be concerned if I was an Intel shareholder. However, that is not the case here and therefore, there is no reason for concern...imho.

Intel has the capability of making it extremely difficult for AMD. The best time to cause pain for competitors is when economic conditions are bad.

Intel probably realized that AMD is gaining too much market share and therefore took action to try and bring it down more historic levels.

Tomorrow's trading in Intel will make this obvious..would not surprise me if they close positive for the day...actually I expect it. I can't believe the afterhours trades on Intel going at 28.50 range.

Also expecting an upgrade or two before earnings.

But CRUSHING AMD is the best way for Intel to prosper

And that will make you feel better? You don't get it, do you. Investing is about making money, not defeating competitive companies.

Crushing AMD, which has been nipping away at Intel's markets and margins, is the best _longterm_ way for Intel to get ASPs back up.

This was the strategy a while back with the "CRUSH Program," which all of us at Intel were involved with. And this is likely the strategy now.

-- use the downturn to drive ASPs down, while also aggressively ramping production

-- proliferate designs at all ends, forcing AMD and TMTA to spread their resources too thinly

-- drive AMD and TMTA out of markets

I applaud Intel. The free ride for AMD and TMTA is over.

(TMTA is below $5 now. I guess they have perfected "value morphing.")

John,

Investing is about making money, not defeating competitive companies.

Your are correct about investing, but "business" is about defeating competitive companies. Otherwise they're going to defeat you and your stock price is the one that's going to suffer.
