"What do you think of AGP 8X specifications calling for 512 MBit/sec sustained data transfer from memory controller with burst rates of 2.1 GBit/sec. I wonder how fast one has to clock DDR memory to get decent Quake numbers with AGP 8X video boards."

What do I think? I think you need to learn how to
read, what is "bit", and how to get "bytes per second".
I think you need to read the spec again and comprehend that
the AGP-8 is an octal-pumped 66MHz 32-bit connection,
with means 533MHz data rate, times 4 bytes, = 2.1GBytes
per second _peak_ bandwidth. Which accidentally is
equal to an ordinary 266-MHz single-channel DDRAM.

Feeling better now?
