Great post.

Two possibles?

1-hook the new machine on to a network and load from there?

2-install the old disk as "F:" or whatever in the new machine and grab data as you need it???

gene, i heard msft is getting draconian re installing software. iow, each program will have to be registered in order to work. perhaps over the net. one program per machine.

sounds like they want to boost their rev growth badly...

OT: That's a good point, Gene. Some usability issues Microsoft simply ignores. Ever try moving a drive from machine A to machine B? Everything breaks. For one thing, there's the damn registry (the registry is certainly one of the dumbest ideas that Microsoft ever had).

Makes me sentimental for my Amiga days...

GP,

Now that's about the most perceptive comment I have ever seen on this thread. It really is a shame that MSFT didn't have better competition back in the day.

My only concern is that this will likely not be the last nor the worst result of their control of the operating system. Splitting the OS operations from the rest of the company may have been the only way of forcing them to address such issues, I don't know. But unless the industry finds a way to get them some competition I look for things to get worse before they get better.
