Rush never met McVeigh but McVeigh remember was FURIOUS at the government for attacking the Whackos from Waco and this event has been named as one of his primary motivations for going whacko himself and blowing up the federal building. On that same day (or time period) Limbaugh was regularly blasting Janet Reno and the Feds for their "mistreatment" of these "God-fearing patriotic" whack jobs. If McVeigh had the radio on he would have a hard time not tuning into Rush. In any case here is one small report on what Rush was saying in those days, enough to enflame the imagination of a boy like McVeigh? "Limbaugh shed further light on the FBI’s activities surrounding the siege of the Branch Davidian sect in 1993, which cost the deaths of 80 men, women and children. According to Limbaugh, Davidian leader David Koresh had already claimed a “divine direction to come out” before the attack on the sect’s compound. The FBI, however, informed then-Attorney General Janet Reno that Koresh refused to surrender, said Limbaugh, which then led to the catastrophic attack on the Branch Davidians. Limbaugh added that Reno, who had originally accepted responsibility for the ensuing tragedy, later retracted her statement, and has recently denied that she was misinformed by the FBI. Referring to Reno’s statements regarding her participation in the attack, Limbaugh questioned whether she “didn’t care,” was “complicit” in the tragedy, or is a “complete imbecile.” In effect, blaming Reno for the tragedy and no doubt rousing anger and outrage against the federal government amongst many of his devoted listeners". (including McVeigh?) * In fact Limbaugh was wrong about Reno. She did the best she could in a very difficult position. The Branch Davidians were dangerous, suicidal and well armed. Very similar to the Jim Jones group which committed mass suicide at their leader's behest. Because it is well-known that McVeigh was outraged by the Branch Davidian affair and was present in Waco as it happened, arrested by Police then for his angry behavior, it can be fairly stated that it is quite possible Limbaugh and others of his ilk did contribute to the bombing, not intentionally of course. When accused of encouraging militia types after the bombing Limbaugh was defensive, but clearly showed guilt in his protest and denial. By stiring up rage against the federal government he had certainly encouraged many militia types to act more fervently as he is the #1 talk radio show in all markets where militias are located, including McVeigh's area. The Limbaugh "connection" received coverage by the national press afterward. It was a logical connection and therefore stirred debate.
