We will never know whether he reviewed their summery or if they worked from his presentation notes, or just commented and interpreted on their own. A little bird once told me a sobering story about a bigshot guru whose words were parsed exquisitely fine by devotees in places like this, as they looked for all possible content, nuances, penumbra, etc., as if they were dealing with Holy Writ. The little bird had once worked with the guru in preparing a public presentation of the guru's thoughts, and was shocked at how casually the great man treated the affair. His initial efforts required much work to become readable, and the guru had lots of other things going on in his life, and apparently felt he had more important things to do than spend a great deal of time checking and rechecking every last dotted I and crossed T. Keeping the little bird's story in my mind, ever since then I've treated gurus' utterances with a bit less reverence than before... tekboy/Ares@nocomment.com PS Catching up on the last few days of posts here, I am struck by how little purchase we can get on some very important questions--how fast the wireless future will come on and what form it will take, what kinds of computer memory will dominate, what will happen with the storage and optical sectors, and so forth. I am more confident than ever, though, that the problems lie in the difficulty of the questions themselves and not in our efforts. I don't think anybody really knows the answers, that is, and most of the people who are close to the subjects are untrustworthy. I feel very lucky, therefore, to be able to go forward into the uncertain future knowing that I can listen in on such honest, intelligent, and informed discussions as the ones that take place here. Whatever happens, if we keep this hub in good shape, we'll be able to orient and reorient ourselves in pretty close to real time as and if necessary.
