Eric, "I'm 3G. No you're not. I'm 3G." - as a QCOM investor I can't understand the benefit of pushing 1xRTT as 3G. Most consumers will be disappointed if after all this hype, "3G" turns out to be, what you quoted from SK Telecom "most comfortable in the range of 30 kbps to 50 kbps". The race is not about which country or standard is going to be first with 3G, as an acronym, but who will be first with new, popular and profitable services. If 1xRTT really is up and running in South Korea it sure hasn't generated any oohhs and aaahs yet.

Eric, No. I have not seen any commercial contracts signed for 1x-Ev-DO Do you recall the signing of scores of contracts for 1x before Korea rolling out their networks? All they said was that at xx time they will do 1x etc etc. Isn't the same thing happening now? That Koreans and Japanese are talking about going HDR next year. And now we have MSM5500 to back it up. The biggest difference between Qcom and others is that Q don't sell vaporware. and I have not heard any announcement of 1x-Ev-DO "Mobiles" Remeber once a time you were shouting the same thing about 1x handsets. And all the sudden from nowhere we are seeing 11 some different 1x phones. See the pattern here? For some reasons, the Koreans are not "hyping up" their 1x networks. And even more strange than that is all those upbeat reports about the 1x networks are almost like the leaked secrets. And then we saw Koreans keep on whining about the royalty they paid to Qcom. See the connection here? Now I want to see whether SKT can have HDR up and running at world cup or not. If they do then they can not keep the good news under the lid anymore.
