A constitutional convention to remove the Second Amendment puts the whole shebang up for grabs, and I don't think you want that.

Sorry, that tactic of saying either we can have any gun we want or we get nothing just doesn't cut it. Nobody is saying that we need remove the second amendment, only that we apply it as written. There is near universal agreement that ordinary citizens do not have the right to own or use an atomic bomb. Other weapons are just a matter of degree. The plain language of the second amendment is that armed citizens are expected to adhere to rules set by the federal government with help from the states.

You could tax guns out of existence without violating the Second Amendment
I suppose that is possible, but then there is electorial and judicial remedy. Just because it is possible does not make it likely, it's also possible that a new amendment will be passed to require green underware but it is also not likely.
