The UP1500 was supposed to be the vehicle which would allow relatively inexpensive Alpha microprocessors manufactured by Samsung to penetrate the low end server market.

But system integrators who signed up for the boards - and the Alphas - were dogged by shortages of processors which left them with egg on their face when they attempted to sell systems to their customer.

Instead, after AMD introduced its multiprocessing Athlon in early June, many abandoned the Samsung-Alpha solution for the far less expensive and far more readily available Tyan Thunder K7 SMP mobo.

Is this supposed to mean you can plug an Alpha into an AthlonMP motherboard? Or that Alpha customers are moving to AthlonMP?
