<<The trust fund has never been more than a bunch of IOUs>>

And that hits the nail right on the head! As I have said - we have a moral obligation to take care of people on social security. We also have what I believe could be a declining obligation to those who have funded. But if we were to start NOW to make changes it would give people in different age groups a chance to prepare and build wealth in different ways. A 50 year old for example has much more coming that I do at age 35. So, if we created a declining scale we could work our way into a position where in the next 30 years SS would become a self funded, albeit government regulated, personal retirement plan. This can be done! But Politicians don't want to give up that nice flow of income. It's way past time to start making noise about this very issue. The sad thing is nothing of value ever happens without civil disobedience or bloodshed in this country. What a shame!
