I wish I could share your optimism. Just a worn out [almost] cynic here.

Over the years, there have been numerous gouges and price manipulations occuring. Last year's Chicago spike in gasoline prices, for example. The Senate started hearings, the gas prices miraculously decreased and no one cared anymore. Yes, it was a GOP Senate, and the Dems can control the agenda, if they choose to. But will they? I wouldn't get my hopes up too high....unless of course you're pumping out e-mails to your Senator[s]. IMO, keep them short and no hyperbole. If they are long, you get a thank you and tossed in the bin; heavy hyperbole, you get a thank you and tossed in the bin. Short and powerfull, you get a thank you and they get passed "through the chamber" [Tip from a staffer I knew on the Hill]
