This from EMR's press releases: "After careful consideration, our management team made a proactive decision to not continue Emerson's record 43 consecutive years of increased earnings per share." Huh? Talk about managed earnings!!! Should serve as a warning to those who get jazzed by talk of a company's history of yadda-ya quarters or years of increased earnings! hg


Actually, it would seem best to downplay earnings now in hopes of getting easier comps next time. Everyone expects bad things today so why not just throw in the rotten kitchen sink this quarter?

I suspect that Amazon is a much better example of the problem you are trying to expose than Microsoft. The latter has been profitable for years. The former has not.
