I respect your point of view. I do not insist that you legally or morally adopt my views. You may choose the alternative that fits your circumstance while I choose mine.

This argument always bothers me logically. Here is an example of why:

You and I (most likely) agree that forcing a person to participate in a sexual act is morally wrong. Right? Rape is wrong.

And, we have as a society decided to "insist that rapists legally or morally adopt our views" to use your words.

In other words we demand as a society that a rapist not be allowed to choose to rape someone of their own free will.

We remove their choice.. or punish them for it.

So... your argument would work as well in favour of any crime against another.

To take it a step further based on the fact that pro-life folks believe a fetus is a human life and pro-choice folks believe it isn't yet - A rapist could use the argument that in his view his victim is 'not human' and therefore by his standard rape is not a crime.

So.

If I believed that way you do about Abortion I would center my argument around the idea that the fetus is not human. Any other argument is lost entirely when you bypass this step.

I also think that if you ask yourself if you really believe that premise in your heart of hearts... and force yourself to be honest, you may be surprised.
