There are some responsibilities that government must perform. They cost money. How do you propose that the govt collect the money? Guys on the corner in Uncle Sam suits with a bell and a bucket like the Salvation Army? I think you are mixing up the hated income tax with the hated IRS.

Many of your posts seem more anarchist than conservative. I know that anarchy is supposed to be the ultimate form of freedom, but it's not really realistic in today's world is it? There will always be someone bigger and stronger and smarter than you are, and if he wants something that you have, you lose.

IMO anarchy is just as ridiculous as communism, fascism, socialism and any other utopian "isms". Many studies have verified that when survival is at stake, altruism rapidly gives way to self-interest. In other words, we all get along in times of plenty, but it's kill or be killed during the shortages and famines.

I agree with your overall philosophy about not desiring to use the IRS code as a manipulative tool in order to enact social policy initiatives. As you may remember, I support an across the board sales tax and an end to the IRS and taxation of earned income.

However, where we differ is in the approach. I believe we need to get there incrementally. And since it's unlikely we will see an end to the IRS anytime soon, I would much rather see us use the IRS code as an incentive to give to private charities, then to see us start an entirely new faith-based-government linkage effort.

Eventually, when we're politically ready to end the practice of taxing earned income and move toward a simple and fairer national sales tax. The tax-code and behavioral incentives will go with it. Most likely, it will have to be phased out in a ten year time frame.
