Give me a break..

well, as a matter of facts, it is true.

The bottom line is that democracy works because it requires a consensus of the population, not just the "unchosen few" who have appointed themselves the national leadership.

yes, I agree that US is a unique country. But, in order to have a voting power that represents your opinion, you'd better be in the majority ... something like: "If you can't beat them, join them." Some minority people just don't like this kinda stuff. Unless they make their population larger and become a scary political force, people would likely say: "If you see the human wave, join the human wave."
Until one wave collides with another wave, we might have a problem. And when you see the past election process, it was some kinda mess. For other nation to have an undecided election, it could turn out to be even worst. Moreover, if democracy in China exists, foreigners could easily bribe certain groups for easy political access to the country. Just give them money and they would shine for me! Ha Ha ... I think there could be more corruption and scandals. But this is the mainland Chinese perspective ... really it is not mine.

But China's on one of two likely paths here.. eventual internal civil strife between disparate economic interests, or regional aggression and nationalist extremism.

Since there's only one party, I don't see much of the major civil conflicts, or regional aggression. The current arrest stuff is just a minor issue for them. As far as nationalism, US has it, England has it, France has it, why not China ? Of course, certain people have certain degree of extremism. This fact cannot be denied.

Maybe you're hoping to become one of the "unchosen few" someday.

Sorry no interest. How can I join the Shanghai gangs or Beijing gangs ? Can I join the D.C. gangs ? or ex-KGB gangs ? Take it easy ... man.
