The whys and hows can be debated all day long, but the only Windows which matters going forward is Windows XP which is highly modular and well structured.

For many years MSFT's critics rightly complained about the crash-prone nature of Windows. It will be interesting to see what new arguments are advanced once most consumers can no longer remember the last time their PC crashed or had to be rebooted.

Dave do you really understand what you are talking about?

If Microsoft had removed 'DOS dependency" "years ago" you would have cried foul when all the Legacy DOS based programs ceased to work. Microsoft has done a pretty good job in balancing the old with the new. It is too bad they can't carve out the cancerous legacy stuff when they want to, but that's what happens when you try to support your customer base...
