MSFT has supported multiple file access technologies for years not just support for drive letters. Universal Naming Convention syntax "\\server\share", FTP, IETF Common Internet File System standards "CIFS", W3C http 1.1 web dav just to name a few.

Half baked board opinions on this and other topics such as the amount of DOS dependent code in non-consumer Windows editions are worth exactly what you pay for them... nothing.

NT and 2000 have had dos subsystem emulation since the beginning and XP eliminates DOS from the consumer products yet retains a high degree of compatibility.
