You must mark the extreme difference in values between some Western societies (like ours) where the individual is exalted, and other societies, like Chinese society, where the collective is exalted. In the US you don't have a lot of "saving face" for the family, for example- because you are more important than your family. In other societies this is not so. When travelling in China it was pretty obvious that the culture was REALLY REALLY different. I don't have an absolute value judgment to make, but I sure as heck know what I prefer.
