The Indian who offered his captors a large room full of gold was Atahualpa, an Inca, and the offer was made to Pizarro. As your source says, it was the Toltecs and Mayas who believed in Quetzalcoatl - and it was Cortez who took advantage of the Quetzalcoatl myth. The question was, are wars ever economically beneficial to the combatants? My answer was, yes, sometimes, and gave as an example the return that the Spanish crown got on its investment in New Spain. My assumption is that we are all educated people here, so I assume that it's ok to speak in shorthand when trying to make a point. Compared to the price paid by the Indians, the Spanish made out like bandits, didn't they?
