Oh bologna.

Anti-Semitism in Europe existed long before the Gospel narratives
arrived on the scene. Just look at the history of Judea under, the
Maccabees, then on to the Jewish revolt of 66-73AD, and the
Bar Kokba (sp?) revolt a generation later. Look also at Gnosticism:
now there is anti-Jewish sentiment taken to the extreme, equating
the Jewish God with the author of all imperfection and evil! (Gnosticism
absorbed the Christ concept from Christianity in the second century,
but most scholars believe the Gnostic world view predates that).

I would argue that it is the Christian teaching of love in the Bible is
the only thing that has barely managed to keep the indigenous hate
for Jews in Europe in check for 18-19 centuries. Then in Germany
we have the rise of rationalism rejecting scripture in the 19th century
so that theologians stopped believing the Biblical message,
preachers stopped preaching it, and then what happens? The
Nazi's. Rest assured Contrarius, it is the hate of Scripture like
you have that is responsible for the Anti-Semitism of history,
not Jesus on the cross who forgave them!

The Jews were a rag tag group of foreigners--probably from Ethiopia

It should be worth noting that a large part of jews from the U.S. at least came from Russia and Poland. Most of these jews decend from the eastern bulgar people of Russia who adopted judism around 1000 AD and were not born into it from semetic tribes. A group of rabbis from Bizantium was hired to teach the population. The bulgars were later pushed to the west by the mongols.
