Andreas RE: Marketshare

Intel says processor shipments went up 6%. AMD's increased from about 7.3M to about 7.7M, ~5.5%. So looks like Intel's share increased slightly. Well, there are also VIA and Transmetta, but they're so small I consider them insignificant. Also, I believe the Mercury numbers in the News.com article were quoted as preliminary numbers.

After hearing that CC, Plain and simple, I see Intel dominating AMD for the rest of the year at a minimum. Heck, it can easily last at least one year until AMD can get a new core out. And even then AMD has to hit 3GHz at a minimum to be competitive like they were with the Athlon. I think AMD will have an extremely hard time making money in Q4 and a Q3 loss is easily guaranteed. The only real question in my mind is how low will AMD stock go as a result.

Re: "1 million at the cc.
They must have been in the 1.5 million range for INTC to hold market share, assuming AMD didn't stuff the channel."

Paul Otellini said Microprocessor shipments increased by OVER a million units this quarter.

It was the last response to the last question on the conference call.

The "OVER a million units" could be just as you said - 1.5 million units - or more - or less.
