J,

In my experience, fallen angels become value plays when they shed the crap and re-focus, often on either a core strength they have strayed from, or new markets they have neglected.

You are correct, IMO. As long as NOK proceeds on plan, they are destined to offer wider dust mops, overheated vacuum cleaners, delayed whisk brooms, and upgraded toilet lozenges that do not fit in existing bowls.

RE: NOK and QCOM

I know I am in the minority on the QCOM threads in believing that NOK is, or at least can be, important to QCOM's future financial success. At the risk of continuing to "spit into a storm" let me offer the following to think about.

Some months ago, around the time that the QCOM -Telson-NOK chip arrangement was announced, the threads discussed whether this deal would give NOK access to QCOM's 1X chips.

I remember from the discussion at that QCOM would not give NOK a 1X license allowing it to sell 1X phones without the comprehensive license deal that was just announced.

It seems that most commentary about the license deal has focused on NOK needing a license to sell w-CDMA infrastructure.

While this is true, I wonder whether the license agreement presages NOK selling 1X phones? And whether it also means NOK will be buying 1X chips from Spinco.

Might this not be the bigger outcome of the license agreement?
