Russia, China Study $1.7Bln Oil Link

By Anna Raff
Staff Writer

Russia and China signed an agreement Tuesday that clears the way for a feasibility study on an oil pipeline linking the two countries.

In addition, Gazprom will be allowed to participate in a tender for the construction of a gas pipeline to China.

The 1,700-kilometer oil link, which has been under discussion for more than two years, is to be built by 2005 and would carry up to 30 million tons a year, or 219 million barrels.

"It's clear the market believes the momentum is going to continue lower, but fundamentally the companies are still making excellent earnings and are financially very strong. Ultimately, we think there will be better support for the sector once the
momentum turns," said Andrew Hogg, oil and gas analyst at Yorkton Securities.

So what is he saying ? Things will pick up next cycle ? :o)
