That doesn't mean that he doesn't want peace with the Pakis. The Indians went along with the hype and hoopla, because they have less to lose than the Pakistanis. Vajpayee is playing along with Musharraf, as the latter is consolidating his power by removing the last vestige of any democratic semblance namely Tarar. The democratic voice has been completely silenced. How long is this clown going to last? Hope, not too long. Can't be another Fidel Castro? No, unthinkable. Bhutto and Sharif who had some democratic leaning, however flimsy it may be, are out of the country. As Islam ascends, democracy descends. They are antithetical to each other. They are like charged particles. They go in different directions. Islam, according to their own religious proponents, doesn't permit one-man-one-vote. They believe in martyrdom, Fatwah, eradication of infidels and conversion of the entire world to their faith. Musharraf finds it difficult to be a super hawk towards India and at the same time get dole from the international agencies. Thus he is making all these false peace moves with India. Indians are watching all this with interest and amusement as the general is making all these clownish consolidation of power. But to the Indians it is no less worrisome in that the general has a great potential to intensify the mischief in Kashmir and India through the jihadists and ISI. Musharraf is a stooge for the military brass and has to be in their good books in order to survive. There are certainly others waiting in the wings to take his position, if any sign of weakness or compromise towards India is perceived. Pakistan will never give up its stance on Kashmir and neither will India. Siachem glacier should never be evacuated or demilitarized, simply because Pakistan can not be trusted. Nobody is talking about the pundits, the buddhists and other minorities in Kashmir. Are their rights secondary to those of muslims or non-existent? Why would US get involved with this mess in South Asia? US is up to its schnozzle elsewhere. Pakistan-based jihad will be attenuated and neutralized by the passage of time and the Kashmiris' fatigue to support the external inimical elements. Punjab will be revisited in Kashmir. India has already demonstrated that patience pays. Take Punjab for instance. Remember Tamil Nadu wanting to be a separate nation. India's economy can support this war by proxy from external (and internal) elements. Pakistan will be going from bad to worse, if the present is any indication. India can sit on its soft rump and watch the runt fade away in its threat and split into disparate pieces. Accommodating to Pakistan's wish is undercutting the secular ideals of India and its constitution. One can as well let the minorities declare independence and precipitate choas. What pakistan doesn't understand is that India has less to lose than pakistan in case of full-scale war between two nations. India will survive as a nation, while pakistan will be devastated beyond recognition. India, from now on won't refuse any talks with pakistan on any subject, but that will not change anything with regards to Kashmir.
