Why Musharraf can't be trusted, but an accommodation with pakistan is essential for peace in South Asia. If there is no accommodation, pray that their fault lines render them harmless.

He was the architect behind frigid Kargil, as the Lahore bus diplomacy was in progress. Here is an instance where the military is not under the civilian control. The military establishment and the civilian authority were parallel governments, when the military took the ascendancy.
Musharraf has no control over the Jihad elements, the fundamentalists and Madrasas. These disruptive elements are pervasive in all private and institutional settings throughout Pakistan. The military and the burro-cratic outfits are chock full of fundamentalists. Undoing their authority is undoing of his own power. Fundamentalism is deeply ingrained into the Pakistani psyche and it is difficult to eradicate it from the minds of the people. There are some thinking people in Pakistan, who are in the minority who want peace and prosperity in South Asia.

The Pakistanis eat, drink, breath, sleep, talk, dream and conjugate Kashmir. Kashmir is the only mantra they know.

Hindus and non-Muslims are infidels fit for conversion or conflagration. Self-mortification /flagellation, martyrdom, slaying of the infidels and women are permitted acts.
There are a lot of firearms in the hands of people of Pakistan. Musharraf would not be able to disarm them.

There is a lot of false information about India in Pakistan, kept alive by the jihadists.

In the midst of poverty and deprivation, there is an insane deep desire among Pakistanis to make South Asia into one Islamic country. They want the glory days of Moghul empire back.

Musharraff harbors hijackers, cross-border terrorists, Mumbai saboteurs and Pakistan-based anti-India elements.

Musharraf is a man with a history of anti-India acts. How could you trust him with Indo-Iran gas pipeline? The pipeline will be the first target of destruction when there is a conflict between India and Pakistan. Apart from that, it will be a perennial target for anti-India elements based in Pakistan or elsewhere.

ISI is very active in India.
