I am far from an extremist.

There is no such thing as an unfettered right. Even free speech, arguably the most sacred of our individual rights, is subject to restrictions and must be exercised responsibly. The text book argument is that although we all enjoy the right of free speech, it does not allow us to yell "Fire" in a crowded theater. The USSC recognizes the concept of "fighting words", etc. What UnAmerican Spirit has posted is not an exercise is free speech but an unbalanced, hateful, irresponsible, scurrilous attack on elected officials, duly elected under our Constitutional system. His statements are without support in facts or in reality and he knows they are untrue yet he posted them anyway. Those posts are defamatory by definition and defamation is not protected free speech. I have stated simply and declaratively my opinion that those posts violate TOU. I do not plan to report UnAmerican Spirit to SI Admin, nor have I posted any intention to do so, but I would certainly not shed a tear if someone else did bring such rantings to the attention of SI Admin. You and your compadres hypocrisy on the issue is quite stunning.

Dear j-f, The percents presented by you 96 and the 280 may both be true.
If you consider the the US GDP is 5 time that of Germany and I know that the US has the least CO2 per unit of GDP anywhere in the world. Germany may put our 1/2 the CO2 of the US. But Germany only produces 1/5 of what the US does.
Not if you want to think about it. Germany also contains East Germany and former Communist countries were backwards as hell. Also Germany I believe has no nuke plants. If they have any they produce less than 20% of the energy. I suspect Germany uses lots of coal.

So to me it makes sense that Germany outputs 2.8 times the CO2 per unit GDP as the US. Now the absolute amount of CO2 has little meaning with no reference.

So if you want free speech, well guess what you have it. But if you post simple percents as facts and don't explain what they are, then you leave yourself open to be considered in a less than favorable light.

I consider free speech to honestly call what I see stupid as stupid. I post facts and opinions and analysis. Feel free to call them whatever you like. But if you just want to rant then don't expect any respect. Beyond my many acid comments I've taken the time to study and read and learn facts. watman.com

Now the new york times requires account access. So if you only post a link, all cannot follow and as I've seen 7442166 the spirit of a lie post links having nothing to do with opinion, some who post are dishonest. If I can't follow the links and read for myself the context of what is said then I don't give much credibility to the data.
