Capital markets are undirected, ownership is overwhelmingly private, prices and wages are mostly set by the market. That is capitalism. The government's share of GDP is less than a third, compared to 57% in Sweden, which, as the most advanced social democratic state, is a good benchmark. The European average is 50%. Government services are always going to cost something, and more as they become more sophisticated (for example, encompassing sewerage plants and paved roads, both unknown in the last century). What is important is whether the economy is dominated by the government, and it is not......
