I focus on early-stage R&D that is (1) discounted substantially relative to what it would cost for installation at a pharma, and/or (2) very highly leveraged. I construct leveraged baskets of big-science companies. This is the traditional approach to biotech investing from the days when there were no products.

It works. There's a post -- somewhere in this thread, but I can't find it -- that summarizes a viable approach to biotech investing that has worked for 20 years.

I'd recommend about two years of study before striking out on your own in biotech. The "T/FIF" threads here at SI are decent places to begin, if you want to study the small caps........
