Joe, I agree that the dead are dead, and I like you am strongly against abortion (as you can see if you read my debate with Solon) but any arguments I make are weakened if I use innacurate information to support them. The statement in question was made in a part of our (mine and Solon's) conversation that was not about abortion over all but specifically about weahter abortion happened to an embryo or a fetus. And if I actually did say that Solon was complelty wrong and that no abortions happen to embryos then I was wrong about that part. I don't think I did say such a thing however. In terms of the over all abortion question it is unimportant unless you attach moral signifcance and rights to fetuses and not to embryos. I don't fall in to that category. I don't think you do, and I don't think Solon does either. For some reason having to do with our personalities, positions, and debating styles arguments between Solon and I often for a time focus on small sub sets of the over all question, or on who said what to who and when in the debate rather then the overall subject of the debate. Most of my debates, arguments and discussions with other people here or elsewhere on SI (or in real life) don't do this, and I don't think Solon's arguments with other people do this as often as his arguments with me. Do you really think it matters if 1,000,000 or 10,000,000 Jews died in the holocaust? Does the number really matter that much, to be technically correct? It doesn't matter in you are talking about "Was the holocaust evil", or "Was Hitler a hateful murderer"? But if you are asking "did Hitler kill more then (Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Evil Tyrant X)", or if you are researching and/or publishing the details of the holocaust then it does matter. It's the thought that counts and murder is murder. Well thought combined with deed. If I hate someone and I want to kill them, even if I plot and plan and conspire to kill them, or even if I shoot them but they live and then I am locked up in prison, I would not be a murderer. Tim
