Thank you, that's a pretty convincing analysis. I will re-short NLI at the next good entry, full position this time.

Surprisingly enough, cable TV has NEVER been a good business in England. It's a densely populated country, and over-the-air reception has always been great because distances are short. The big change the past 10 years has been satellite, because it carried a lot more programming than the government-controlled over-the-air. Cable is kind of caught between the two... no real advantage once satellite is established in the market, and the build-out costs are MUCH higher.

(Yes, I used to be English)

NLI got extra cash in May

They did a $ 1 billion 6.75% convertible at $ 32.728 due 2008.

biz.yahoo.com

So cash will last a bit longer, but it will be no help because interest payments will be higher.

Please don't laugh if you read in the PR that the notes could be bought by "qualified institutional buyers" only.

NLI said it will cross the water line end of 2003. But everyone else is guessing what the next few quarters will be about.

Xaver
