Congratulations on your foresight.

Re: "Remember how AMD cited a lack of integrated graphics chipsets as a reason for poor Duron sales several quarters ago? "

The AMDroids and AMD management are STILL siting this as an excuse for the poor DooWrong sales.

Ten - Re: "So while everyone else is focused on clock speeds, processor performance, and stupid benchmark tricks, I think it's worth pointing out things which don't have such "sex appeal" like that humble but amazingly successful 810 chipset."

What most people don't realize is that Intel's graphics on the i810 - which I believe are identical to the i815 - allowed Intel to tune their drivers very effectively to run reliably with Windows-based software.

This contributes to the stability of the overall system - and STABILITY is JOB 1 for OEMs. Their margins are so low that they cannot afford service calls and massive returns on flaky hardware.

I don't run any games, and I have built up 3 i815E systems over the past 7 months - and one i810 system - and they all run Windows superbly.

Ref < INTEGRATED GRAPHIC CHIPSETS>

It was interesting to revisit the success of Intel's Integrated Graphic Chipset Strategy. For two years Intel's integrated graphic chip sets have dominated chipset sales. This makes the Duron a lot more expensive than a casual look at the price list, since the computer manufacturer has to add an extra graphics card.

So Intel's acquisition of Chips and Technology seems to have paid off in the end. The ananlysts were bashing Intel that Intel has nothing to show for this and other acquisitions.
