Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Selects Allscripts Workflow Solutions
Leading Research and Treatment Facility to Implement TouchWorks: Charge(TM) To Improve Charge Capture Process
CHICAGO, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq: MDRX - news), the leading provider of point-of-care decision support tools for physicians, announced today that the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and one of the leading cancer research and care facilities in the United States, has agreed to purchase Allscripts TouchWorks Charge(TM), Physician Homebase(TM), and WorkFlow(TM) solutions.

Dana-Farber selected Allscripts primarily to address the challenges caused by the inefficiencies in the traditional manual recording of charges. This process may result in lost charges, rework, claim denials, and delayed reimbursement. It has been estimated that a typical 300-physician practice can lose over a million dollars a year due to unbilled professional services alone. Allscripts TouchWorks Charge is an automated solution to the traditional manual charge capture process for both inpatient and ambulatory services. With TouchWorks Charge, Dana-Farber's physicians will use the Compaq iPAQ and Pocket PC platform to wirelessly capture charges at the point of care for all services.

``We are a very unique organization with very specific needs,'' said Dorothy Puhy, Chief Financial Officer of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. ``We needed a partner that could provide a customized solution to the challenges facing our institution and we have found that partner in Allscripts.''

``We are excited to provide a very prestigious and well-respected organization like the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with a real solution for the challenges they are facing,'' commented Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. ``Our Charge application offers an automated alternative to the cumbersome and inefficient manual capture of charges, which saves time for both physicians and their staff. The bottom line is that Charge can improve the efficiency of the charge capture process, giving physicians more time to focus on patients rather than paperwork, while at the same time generating a measurable return on investment for Dana-Farber.''

By Don Clark

Of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

CARLSBAD, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Michael Capellas, chief executive of Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ), predicted that a "revolution" in the delivery of digital content will become a dominant driver of computer-industry growth.

Speaking at the Internet Summit conference here, Capellas looked beyond the short-term problems that have squeezed earnings at Compaq and other computer makers. Most such discussions in the past have focused on electronic commerce, but Capellas argued companies will direct much of their technology investment toward using audio, video and other rich digital content to conduct collaborative work.

"There will be huge investments over time" in the field, Capellas said.

In response to questions, Capellas defended Compaq's recent move to stress computing services, which was derided Monday by rival Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) Compaq won't focus on competing with most conventional consulting companies, which help customers design applications, he said. Instead, it will help customers work out more technical problems in their infrastructure, such as how servers and disk drives and communications resources should be arrayed.

"We are in the hardware business in a big way," Capellas said. "We are extremely proud of our record of innovation. But the customer wants more." Capellas also defended another one of McNealy's targets: a Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) initiative called .NET that is billed as a new way to design services and applications on the Web.

"I think this will be an absolutely dominant technology," Capellas said.
