Re: the point of your post: If such close ties between the Democratic Party and organized labor are so heinous and scandalous, then why isn't Congress or the Executive Branch moving with incredible speed to end this practice?

Three reasons that I can see: (1) It's not illegal. (2) To do so would would mean that Big Business would then have to climb out of bed with the Republican Party. (3) The Republicans know that their base for future voters/growth is shrinking, and the last thing in the world they want to do is antagonize organized labor, lest what happened in Pennsylvania and Michigan on Nov. 8 be repeated throughout the entire Midwest in 2004.
