Ok. What does one do if he has a wife that "must have it" regardless of price (and the seller doesn't need to come down as there's already another buyer). I said be prepared for some "deflation" in the future. But I will be able to sell mine for close to a 2x or 3x.. The new home is less than 30% above what it was valued for in 1996 so the appreciation doesn't seem too bad. Plus it's much bigger than where I am now and has 3 acres to boot. But I'm like you.. I hate paying full price for anything.
