Reparations? What would give them that right? Mexico City is the most polluted city on Earth. It is worse than Athens was 15 years ago.

How much do they hoeing a hill a of maize in Chiapas?
If conditions and pay are so much worse in the maquiladora towns than at home, why do so many workers flock to them?
Answer: Because back home there are no jobs. Just unemployment. Maybe a dollar or two a day in income if your family has a farm.

Reparations? If the Mexican government wishes to pass environmental laws, it may do so now. Why doesn't it?
Because a large chunk of those maquiladoras would move someplace else. And the Mexican government would be left with the resulting unemployment.
I realize that this would also be our problem because even more Mexicans would illegally immigrate here, but we don't pass Mexican laws.

What would you think an average Mexican worker makes in the Maquila? The best I have been able to figure is about a buck an hour average.

Thats about double Mexico's minimum wage assuming that they are only working 8 hour shifts. If they work for a dollar an hour for longer then 8 hours per day then they get more then double Mexico's minimum wage. $1/hour is not bad in Mexico. If we insisted that Mexican workers at these plants make $5/hour they would not get a wage increase instead they would get a pink slip.
