Pete, nice piece of circumlocution. You could have just said, "That all depends on what your definition of 'server' is," and I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you.

But the original point still stands. Clusters of small form-factor servers have their purpose and their cost advantages, but they are not going to replace the back-end database servers where the core of business transaction processing takes place. This is where Intel wants to break into with Itanium, which itself represents both a performance and a price/performance advantage over traditional big iron guys.

Speaking of which, there are signs that AMD is giving up trying to pursue the 4-way and 8-way space with Sledgehammer. My prediction is coming true:
