Semantics again? Certainly one of the best routes to making sure that one understands a market is to look at how the various products in that market are regarded and how they are faring. If one listens only to Coleman, one gets a very specific view of the world, which checking out the competition would help balance and broaden.

I readily agree on the perils of knowing only the technology, but I wasn't proposing that one swap one for the other. One is missing something without either, along with finance and a number of other realms which one needs for a complete understanding of a company and its markets.
